For someone who’s all about family, Vin Diesel sure seems to be involved in a lot of treachery.
When the Fast X star and Dwayne Johnson butted heads with each other in their infamous feud, fans weren’t the only ones who picked sides, even their friends and co-stars found themselves getting divided. While some sided with the former professional wrestler, others remained loyal to Diesel, including the actor’s longtime friend and on-screen pal, Tyrese Gibson.
But when it was time to reciprocate, Diesel failed to show up for Gibson, who too, had a bone to pick with The Rock. What’s more, the former even ended up bringing Johnson back to the Fast & Furious franchise. And now, the Brahma Bull is here to stay.
Vin Diesel Betrays Tyrese Gibson by Bringing Back The Rock
Back in 2021, Dwayne Johnson publicly vowed to never set foot in the Fast & Furious franchise again [via CNN], courtesy of his conflict with the ring leader of the Fast universe. So, the Black Adam star’s appearance in the latest installment was obviously a massive surprise for everyone. And as if that alone wasn’t baffling enough, The Rock is now set to reprise his role as Luke Hobbs in a new standalone film.
While Vin Diesel has made amends with Johnson by officially reinstating him in the franchise, he might just have ruined his friendship with Tyrese Gibson by doing so. Back when Diesel and the former WWE star clashed on the set of Fate of the Furious (2016), Gibson, who’s also one of the oldest members of the Fast family, rushed to the 55-year-old’s defense. But when Gibson himself got in a pickle with The Rock, the Riddick star wasn’t there for his friend.
When it was announced that Johnson’s spinoff with Jason Statham, Hobbs & Shaw, would make it to the big screens before Fast 9, a seething Gibson accused The Rock and his producing partner of “breaking up the Fast family”. And to everyone’s shock, Diesel decided to stand up for the Moana star instead, despite their own separate dispute.
After all was said and done though, Diesel brought Johnson back to the family for good, it seems, but perhaps, at the cost of betraying one of his own. For what it’s worth though, Gibson did claim he’d hashed things out with The Rock [via Comedy Central] after their altercation, so maybe it’s not all bad.
Dwayne Johnson to Lead A New Fast & Furious Spinoff
Johnson, who recently made a comeback to the franchise as the no-nonsense lawman in a credits scene of Fast X, is now slated to star in a new Fast & Furious spinoff.
While The Rock will act as a producer along with Danny and Hiram Garcia for their Seven Bucks Productions, Diesel and Samantha Vincent will also be producing the project via One Race Films. Meanwhile, Chris Morgan, who’s been a key player in penning and producing several Fast entries has written the untitled script for the upcoming movie.
Though the plot details remain undisclosed, Johnson, in his official announcement of the project, did mention that the film “will serve as a fresh, new chapter & set up for Fast X: Part II.”
The spinoff was announced by Universal Pictures on Thursday and is believed to release in 2025.
Fast X is currently playing in theatres.
