The 51-year-old actor is making serious bank on his next movie.
Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, is making serious bank on his next movie.
The 51-year-old actor has reportedly signed a record-breaking contract for the Christmas movie, Red One.
Amazon Studios is reportedly paying him USD $50 million upfront for the movie, which is due for release at the end of this year.
The $50 million payment is the biggest upfront payment ever negotiated by an actor.
While not much is known about the upcoming Christmas movie, it’s been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre”.
The Rock took to Instagram to describe it somewhat differently.
“Think Jumanji meets Miracle on 34th Street meets Hobbs & Shaw with a dash of Harry Potter and sprinkled on top with my all-time favorite Christmas movie, It’s A Wonderful Life,” he said.
“Let all that sink in.”
Alongside The Rock, Red One will feature a pretty epic cast including Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Wesley Kimmel and J.K. Simmons.
Filming for Red One reportedly wrapped back in February, but an official release date is yet to be confirmed.
The Rock is also returning to the role of Luke Hobbs in Fast X: Part II.
His return to the franchise follows a long feud with Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel.
In a video he posted to Twitter, Johnson said he and Vin Diesel were now putting this feud aside for the sake of the franchise.
“Despite us having our differences, me and Vin, you know we’ve been like brothers for years,” he said.
Their beef originally became public in 2016 when Johnson criticized his male co-stars.
“There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ‘em. My male co-stars, however, are a different story,” he said.
“Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t.
“The ones that don’t are too chicken to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses.”
While he didn’t name Diesel specifically, there was no doubt about who he was referring to.
The feud escalated to the point where Johnson said he would not return to the Fast franchise.
So, the announcement he was returning to the franchise was welcome news to his fans.
