Actor Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” has claimed the movie “Black Adam” net profit of 52 to 75 million USD even though the work is struggling to break even.
According to Matt Belloni of Puck magazine , several Warners Bros. believe that actor Dwayne Johnson leaked false financial information about the movie “Black Adam”.
Earlier in December, Variety confirmed that the film lost between $50 million and $100 million, fueling rumors that “Black Adam” was another DC flop. In response, another article published by Deadline reported that the lead actor of the movie Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” assured the public that the film would turn a profit.
According to Belloni’s sources, the above claim is fabricated and the movie “Black Adam” will soon be cut because the box office is not breaking even.
“The Rock” deceives public opinion about the sales of “Black Adam”?
After nearly seven weeks in theaters, the superhero movie has grossed nearly $400 million at the global box office against a $195 budget to produce. Variety ‘s initial report said that Black Adam cost at least $80 million more to bring to market, along with a $100 million advertising campaign planned before the Covid-19 pandemic broke out. With all of this combined, “Black Adam” will struggle to break even, even when taking into account ancillary revenue from other operations.
However, Dwayne Johnson has refuted these claims, comparing “Black Adam” sales to that of “Captain America: The First Avenger” which grossed $370 million. “I’m waiting for the official report from the financiers. However, it can be revealed first that “Black Adam” net profit between 52 million USD to 72 million USD. With revenue of nearly 400 million USD worldwide world, we are building a new dynasty “Captain America: The First Avenger” has raised $ 370 million for the future of DC.”
“Black Adam” earned $67 million in early U.S. screenings, beating initial projections of $62 million. While these grosses are in line with previous DC cinematic universe films (2018’s Aquaman earned $67.8 million domestically), “Black Adam” has surpassed the earnings of “Shazam!”, the series This film only grossed a total of 53.5 million USD in its opening weekend.
“The Rock” has repeatedly stated that, Black Adam will mark a “new era” for the DCEU. The film also marks the return of “superman” Henry Cavill in a post-production scene. However, the future of “Black Adam” in the DCEU remains unclear despite the actor’s enthusiasm, as industry experts say that a sequel to the film is unlikely to be produced, if based on box office revenue of season one.
