Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson gave a family of fans the surprise of a lifetime at a special screening of his new animated film, DC’s League of Super-Pets.
The Hollywood actor is known for surprising audiences with displays of generosity, and this week pulled out all the stops to gift a family with a new puppy.
Dwayne’s first surprise came when he dressed in an over-sized costume of his character, Krypto, and posed with fans for photographs at the screening.
He then walked into the crowded theatre where the film was about to start, and sparked gasps and cheers when he removed the mask to reveal who was underneath.
The surprises were far from over, however, as he asked if the Hernandez family were in the building and asked them to come on to the stage.
Mum, dad, baby and three older siblings dutifully walked up, with the former WWE star asking if it was true that they always wanted a dog.

‘I’ve been told that you guys have had this dream, like, all of your lives to get a dog. Is that right?’ he asked.
‘I have something special for you guys,’ he teased, before returning with a small puppy.
He revealed the puppy’s name was Quail, and he had been chosen for the family with the help of rescue charity Best Friends Animal Society.
The kids were in tears as they picked up the new member of the family, and the group embraced as the theatre erupted into applause.
Taking to Instagram to share the sweet moment, Dwayne admitted: ‘Stuff like this will always be the best part of my job.’

He went on: ‘I LOVE surprising audiences of our @sevenbucksprod films, but this #DCSuperPets screening surprise was special.
‘I dressed up as my character, KRYPTO and surprised two audiences here at @cinemark in LA.’
He said the ‘best part’ of the night ‘was finding a loving home with the Hernandez family for my lil’ guy, Quail.’
Dwayne stars alongside Kevin Hart, John Krasinski, Keanu Reeves, Vanessa Bayer and Kate McKinnon in the star-studded film, which is released in theatres on Friday, 29 July.

As well as making a family’s dream for a puppy come true, this week Dwayne was honoured as he learned a shark had been named after him by a conservation charity.
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy shared the news with the WWE and Hollywood legend, informing him on Twitter alongside a series of images of Shark The Rock: ‘@TheRock there is a white shark named after you!
‘This tough shark had an injury on its dorsal fin but our research team was able to see the injury heal over time! If you ever come to the East Coast, we would love to have you and try to meet your shark! #SharkWeek2022 @SharkWeek.’
