An emotional Hugh Jackman reunites with veteran performer from the original X-Men film: ‘His story is incredible’

Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman has paid tribute to Oscar winning performer Ke Huy Quan.

Sharing an emotional post to his social media on Friday, Hugh explained that he was reunited with the Everything Everywhere All at Once actor recently after 25 years.

The pair met on the set of X-Men in 2000, when the Saigon-born star was working as part of the stunt team on the Marvel blockbuster.

In his Instagram post the 55-year-old fan favourite said he met up with Kế Huy, 51, – also known as Kihui Kwan – when both actors were guests at a ceremony for Marvel President Kevin Feige last month.

Hugh shared a picture of himself posing with Kế Huy in Los Angeles soon after Feige received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In a gushing caption in honour of his old friend Hugh described Kế Huy as ‘incredible’.

Hugh began: ‘One of the many cool things about the [Wolverine] movie being released is so many moments are happening that are making the 25 years that I’ve been playing Wolverine.’

He continued: ‘And so the other day the Walk of Fame induction ceremony for Kevin Feigy.

‘I saw Kihui Kwan (Kế Huy) and of course he won an Oscar recently and his story is incredible and his career is incredible.

‘And we saw each other and we embraced. We worked together on X Men One. He was in the stunt team at the time working on that movie

‘First of all, he’s incredible and that team were incredible and that’s really where I learnt about how to do action movies and how to do stunts and it was just really really cool to see him to reconnect. So yeah.’

Ke Huy, who is also known as Jonathan Ke Quan, first came to fame as a child actor playing a major role in the Steven Spielberg blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984).

Another Spielberg blockbuster production, The Goonies followed in 1985.

In 2022 Kế Huy won a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for the Oscar winning comedy fantasy Everything everywhere All at Once.

It comes after Hugh recently broke down in tears as he celebrated his latest box office hit.

The star of stage and screen wept in his car when he learned that his new film, Deadpool & Wolverine, had become the number one movie in the world.

Reading the news on his phone in a video posted to Twitter on Monday, Hugh first chuckled to himself before exclaiming, ‘oh my god’.

Happy tears began flowing as the revelation sunk in.

Hugh also shared the news to his Instagram, writing, ‘Wolverine and Deadpool is the #1 movie in the world. Thank you ALL!’

He posted the caption alongside a graphic of his character, Wolverine, laying on a couch looking at a framed image that read, ‘Number one movie in the world’.

Deadpool & Wolverine took in AU $10million at the domestic box office on its opening weekend, making it the highest grossing R-rated (U.S.) weekend opening of all time, while pulling in AU $668.45 million globally – far beyond industry expectations.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the third movie in the action comedy series featuring Ryan Reynolds and will mark the tenth time Hugh has played Wolverine.

He first played Wolverine in the 2000 movie X-Men and has since appeared in several sequels and spin-offs.

In May, it was reported that Hugh was finding solace in his grown-up children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, following his split from wife Deborra-Lee Furness last year.
