‘I told her you’re Wolverine, just go with it’: Hugh Jackman reveals that he once used his X-Men alter-ego to be a wingman for his 13-year-old son

He’s the Australian superstar who found great success portraying Wolverine in the X-Men franchise.

But while walking the red carpet at the Hollywood Film Awards on Sunday, Hugh Jackman revealed that not everyone is a fan of his famous character.

Speaking to ET, the 50-year-old explained that his son Oscar, 18, usually shied away from the association with his dad’s alter-ego, but several years ago the role came in handy when the teenager asked for help.

Wingman: While Hugh was at the Hollywood Film Awards on Sunday, he revealed that he once used his Wolverine character to help his son try to pick up a girl

Once he was on the beach. He was talking to a girl, he was about 13, he was talking to a girl, who I guess to be about 15, and he started walking towards me,’ Hugh recalled.

‘He came up to me and he started walking ahead of the girl, and he goes, “Dad, Dad, Dad, she’s coming over. I told her you’re Wolverine, just go with it.”

Hugh continued: ‘I was like, “I am the wingman for my 13-year-old boy.”

At the awards, the helpful former wingman took home the Hollywood Actor Award for his portrayal of politician Gary Hart in The Front Runner.

The political biopic follows the true story of US senator Gary Hart’s journey from possible presidential candidate to alleged womaniser.

The film, directed by Jason Reitman, is set to hit the big screen in the US on November 21, but Australian fans will have to wait until January 24, 2019 for a cinematic release.

At the event, the actor looked dashing in a shiny black blazer with tailored black trousers and kept it casual with a white shirt unbuttoned at the collar.

Hugh, who is normally accompanied by his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, 62, walked the red carpet solo.

The pair, who share two children – Oscar and Ava, 13, are one of Hollywood’s most long-standing couples, having tied the knot in 1996 after meeting on the set of TV show Correlli.
